We have good news and bad news for this flu season

The bad news is that apparently they are expecting a major outbreak of the West Nile Virus this year. The good news is: You don’t have to get it!
West Nile virus is a transmitted to humans by mosquito bites. Virus symptoms range from none to severe: encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) or meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord). West Nile Virus has reached epidemic levels in Texas in 2012. Many other states (43 as of August, 2012) also reported infections, and many report an increase in the number of people diagnosed with the disease. The US CDC considers this to be the largest outbreak in the U.S. since 2004.
West Nile Virus Infection Symptoms
The following are the symptoms to be aware of about 3 to 14 days after an infected mosquito bites a person and transmits the West Nile virus:
• Serious Symptoms in a Few People. About one in 150 people infected with WNV will develop severe illness. The severe symptoms can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness and paralysis. These symptoms may last several weeks, and neurological effects may be permanent.
• Milder Symptoms in Some People. Up to 20 percent of the people who become infected have symptoms such as fever, headache, and body aches, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes swollen lymph glands or a skin rash on the chest, stomach and back. Symptoms can last for as short as a few days, though even healthy people have become sick for several weeks.
How Does West Nile Virus Spread?
• Infected Mosquitoes. Most often, WNV is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes become infected when they feed on infected birds. Infected mosquitoes can then spread WNV to humans and other animals when they bite.
• Transfusions, Transplants, and Mother-to-Child. In a very small number of cases, WNV also has been spread through blood transfusions, organ transplants, breastfeeding and even during pregnancy from mother to baby.
• Not through touching. WNV is not spread through casual contact such as touching or kissing a person with the virus.
Remember that viruses enter the body through ears, nose and mouth. You can protect yourself with essential oils to destroy them right there. A great combination would be: Clove, Eucalyptus, Pine, Oregano, Tea Tree, Thyme.

Dr. Oz is recommending B12

Vitamin B12 offers a host of benefits and works in blood and nerve cells. Neurological function, such as brain, spinal and optic nerves, and proper blood cell functioning require vitamin B12. For the heart, vitamin B12 helps maintain healthy homocysteine levels in the blood. It also helps restore energy levels.

B-12 Deficiency May Increase Brain Shrinkage:

Vitamin B-12 deficiency may increase the risk of reduced mental function and increase the loss of brain volume in people, a new study reports.
Markers of vitamin B-12 status, but not B-12 levels themselves, were associated with lower scores on the cognitive tests and smaller total brain volume, researchers from the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago reported in Neurology.
This is not the first report of potential benefits of B-12 on brain shrinkage. In 2008 researchers from the University of Oxford reported that people with higher blood levels of the vitamin were six times less likely to experience brain shrinkage compared with people with lower vitamin levels (Neurology 71:826-832, 2008).
Vitamin B-12, also known as cobalamin, is only found in food of animal origin, including meat, milk and eggs.
For the Chicago study blood samples were taken from 121 people aged over 65. Four and one-half years after the blood sample collection, the participants had their brains scanned. MRI scans were performed to measure total brain volume and look for other signs of brain damage.
“Concentrations of all vitamin B-12-related markers, but not serum vitamin B-12 itself, were associated with global cognitive function and with total brain volume,” the researchers reported.

WEIGHT-LOSS:
When the pH is either too acidic or too alkaline, the metabolic enzymes inside the cell do not work efficiently, which prevents the proper breakdown of fats, etc. For iodine absorption, the pH has to be almost perfect-between 6.3-6.6 so the thyroid can produce hormones.

The Nervous System
When brain cells are too acidic or too alkaline, they dysfunction, resulting in inability to produce the appropriate chemicals. This can result in insomnia, anxiety, depression, neuroses, psychoses and impairment of memory. Since the brain is supposed to communicate through the spinal cord and other nerves to every cell in the body (heart cells, intestinal cells, muscle cells, glandular cells, etc.), every body system can dysfunction if the nervous system does due to acid/alkaline imbalance.

How to Recognize a Stroke:
If you think someone is having a stroke, remember the 60 second test:
1. Ask the individual to smile.
2. Ask him or her to raise both arms.
3. Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like “It is sunny out today.”

Just a quick note: regular use of any of the oils mentioned in this article or any of the supplements can also be considered for those of you who have not experienced a stroke and do not wish to have one. It is easier to prevent a stroke as opposed to dealing with recovering from one.
In referring to stroke patients, “Many patients need help to regain their strength and walk again. Ecas chief executive David Griffiths said, aromatherapy was a good way to improve the quality of life for those with physical disabilities. A survey conducted by Ecas found that half the patients questioned after an aromatherapy treatment reported improvements in joint mobility. The charity also found that three quarters of patients reported a decrease in physical tension and more than half felt an increased sense of wellbeing.”

Using essential oils will help not only the person who experienced the stroke, but also those assisting in
their care. The essential oils will help with frayed nerves for all.
Since a stroke affects the blood flowing to or in the brain the best place to apply the oils is: on the base of
the neck, temples, and the bottom of the feet, paying particular attention to the big toes of the feet. (Why
big toes? In reflexology your big toe is your head.)
There are several oils that have been shown in laboratory tests to pass the blood brain barrier. The essential oil that is best known for this miraculous feat is Frankincense. You can place a drop of Frankincense under your tongue (diluted) and within three seconds it will be affecting the brain (in a positive way if you have a good essential oil). It doesn’t taste great, but have a drink of water to chase the taste away.
Speaking of water, your brain is 90% water. It is also over 65% oxygen. If you’re not drinking water you are missing out on one of the easiest things you can do to help yourself stay healthy. By the way, water is water, nothing added. Why do we say that? Because only water can rehydrate the brain.

Essential oils recommended for dealing with a stroke and reasons why:

Frankincense: Relaxing oil, powerful antidepressant. Used as an aid for people dealing with
brain damage. Assists in controlling tremors. Able to cross the blood brain barrier and assist in brain repair and function. Reduces scar tissue.
Geranium: Remedy for emotional and physical wounds, aids circulation, regenerates cells and Taps into the power of the heart.
Helichrysum: Decongests, unblocks, and rejuvenates. Great for the nervous system. One of the best essential oils for traumas. Where the body has been wounded or the emotions assaulted, this oil provides relief. It has the capacity to mobilize emotional paralysis, work with neuralgia, and is a neurotonic. It also improves meridian flow. If you are dealing with nerves this is the first oil to reach for. Helps stimulate the myelin sheathe and helps migrate the nerves so they can jump over or around a damaged area (neurosynaptic repair). Nerve regrowth is a slow process; expect 2-3 months recovery for every year it’s been damaged. First sign of regrowth will be tingling sensation, then burning, then pain. Helichrysum oil can dissolve blood clots.
Lavender: Comforts, revives the spirit and calms the mind. Balances the skin, body, and mind. Regenerates cells and thread veins. Reduces scarring. Relieves pain, heals wounds, and
rejuvenates. Can dissolve blood clots.
Lemon: Improves circulation, tones capillaries and veins. Addresses slackened muscle tissue and poor circulation.
Peppermint: Energizes a sluggish body. It detoxifies and activates lymph flow and drainage.
Rosemary: Excellent for regeneration. Assists with blood flow. Excellent to use following paralysis or where degeneration of muscular tissue has occurred in the body. Stimulates circulation, provides the body with energy and vitality. Combats physical and mental lethargy and strengthens arterial blood flow. Promotes circulation in the extremities of the body. Do not use with high blood-pressure or seizures.
Sandalwood: Renowned for treating the mind and body at the same time. Tissue regenerator, deprograms cellular misinformation and carries oxygen at the cellular level, increases capillary circulation. If I might make two suggestions as to the preferred essential oils that have shown the fastest results in dealing with a stroke: Helichrysum and Frankincense.

Learning and memory improved by elevating brain magnesium.

Learning and memory are fundamental brain functions affected by dietary and environmental factors. Here, we show that increasing brain magnesium using a newly developed magnesium compound (magnesium-L-threonate, MgT) leads to the enhancement of learning abilities, working memory, and short- and long-term memory. Our findings suggest that an increase in brain magnesium enhances both short-term synaptic facilitation and long-term potentiation and improves learning and memory functions.

Dr. Guosong Liu, stated in his presentation, that a study he did on mice, might indicate that traumatic memories might gradually lessen with the use of this new form of brain supplement.

VITILIGO

Vitiligo is a condition where white patches appear on the skin.  This is caused as melanocytes, the cells of the skin that produce melanin, no longer produce this source of color in the skin.  Why melanocytes die or stop producing is not yet known, but information has come to light that it is urinary related. 

The condition happens with all skin colors.  It usually starts in one small area and grows over time.

Oils, blends & products recommended:

Suggested protocols:

Consider topical application of bergamot to the areas 1 -2 times daily.  Be cautious about exposing the area to sunlight since bergamot, like all citrus oil, is photosensitive. Try making a blend of Bergamot, Frankincense, Lavender, Myrrh and Sandalwood. Use Natures Sunshine Massage oil as a carrier about twice daily.

Vitiligo is a condition related to the urinary system. Products like Urinary Maintenance would be helpful. This is not a quick fix condition, but persistence will pay off.

BRONCHITIS

Bronchitis

 

Bronchitis occurs when the air passages in your lungs become inflamed. Bronchitis can be acute or chronic. Acute bronchitis is usually due to a viral infection — such as a cold — that starts in your nose or sinuses and spreads to the airways. Acute bronchitis usually lasts a few days, although you may have a cough for weeks afterward.

Signs and Symptoms:

 

Acute bronchitis:

  • Cough that produces yellow or green mucus
  • Burning sensation in the chest
  • Wheezing
  • Sore throat
  • Fever
  • Fatigue

 

Chronic bronchitis:

  • Chronic cough that produces mucus
  • Wheezing, shortness of breath
  • Blue tinged lips
  • Ankle, feet, and leg swelling

 

Causes:

Acute bronchitis is usually caused by the same viruses that cause colds. But exposure to cigarette smoke or pollution, a condition called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and bacterial infections can also cause bronchitis.

The main causes of chronic bronchitis are cigarette smoking and prolonged exposure to air pollution, dust, and environmental tobacco smoke. During their lifteimes, 40% of smokers develop chronic bronchitis. One study shows that snoring is also associated with chronic bronchitis.

Preventive Care:

The best way to prevent chronic bronchitis is to avoid smoking and to stay away from air pollutants. For acute bronchitis, take steps to avoid colds and respiratory infections, such as washing your hands frequently, taking supplements, essential oils and using a Boomerang.

For acute bronchitis:

Studies show that antibiotics are not an effective treatment for acute bronchitis and may contribute to antibiotic resistance.

For chronic bronchitis:

N-acetyl-cysteine (1-4 tablets per day) — NAC is a modified form of a dietary amino acid that works as an antioxidant in the body. Several studies indicate that it may help relieve symptoms of COPD by acting as an antioxidant to reduce oxidative stress on the lungs (damage caused by free radicals, particles that harm cells and DNA). N-A-C is also a mucolytic, meaning it breaks up mucous.

For acute bronchitis:

Because bronchitis often follows a cold, some of the same supplements used to prevent or treat a cold may be helpful.

  •  Probiotics (Probiotic Eleven) — So called “good” bacteria or probiotics help prevent infections in the intestines, and there is preliminary evidence that they might help prevent respiratory infections, too.

 

For acute and chronic bronchitis/Expectorants for cough:

  • Lobelia (Lobelia inflata) — Also called Indian tobacco, lobelia has a long history of use as an herbal remedy for respiratory problems including bronchitis. It is an effective expectorant, meaning that it helps clear mucus from your lungs.
  • Bronchial Formula (ayurvedic) — Traditionally, it has been used for respiratory illnesses and coughs with lung congestion.
  • PLS II – A healing formula to help heal any type of wounded tissue. Great for the lungs in time of inflammation.

 

Aromatherapy

Running a cool humidifier with an essential oil combination such as eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), bergamot oil, myrrh, lavender, Tea Tree, Marjoram and pine needle, has been suggested for several respiratory illnesses, including both acute and chronic bronchitis, to loosen phlegm, thin mucus and ease cough. Peppermint (Mentha piperita) — Peppermint is widely used for cold symptoms. Its main active agent, menthol, is a good decongestant. Menthol also thins mucus and works as an expectorant, helping loosen and break up phlegm. Depending on your health, an aggressive attack with oils may be necessary. One study found that people with acute bronchitis treated with essential oils containing monoterpenes did better than people who took placebo. Talk to an experienced aroma-therapist to learn which oil, alone or in combination, is best for you.

LEMON OIL – 34 WAYS TO USE IT!

Outside of Lavender, therapeutic-grade Lemon essential oil is perhaps one of the most versatile and useful oils to have around the home. Lemon oil can be used for everything from aromatherapy to flavoring water, to making your own uplifting bath salts to cleaning produce. Lemon oil has been widely used in skin care to cleanse skin and reduce wrinkles. It promotes clarity of thought and purpose, as well as health, healing, physical energy, and purification. Its fragrance is invigorating, enhancing, and warming. Lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rind.

A 1995 Mie University study found that citrus fragrances boosted immunity, induced relaxation, and reduced depression.

Medical Properties of Lemon Essential Oil: Antitumoral, antiseptic, improves microcirculation, and immune stimulant (increases white blood cells), improves memory, relaxation. Rich in limonene, which has been extensively studied for its ability to combat tumor growth in over 50 clinical studies.

Jean Valnet MD estimated that it takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of lemon essential oil – use it sparingly when flavoring beverages or foods. In his book, “The Practice of Aromatherapy”, Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system.

University researchers in Japan found that diffusing certain aromas in an office environment dramatically improved mental accuracy and concentration. Diffused Lemon oil resulted in 54 percent fewer errors! Diffuse for 10 minutes every hour. When aromas were diffused during test taking, scores increased by as much as 50 percent.

34 Ways To Use Therapeutic-grade Lemon Essential Oil

  1. To clean non-carpeted floors, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to a bucket of water. Then add 5 – 10 drops of lemon or pine essential oil. If the floor is especially dirty, add several drops of Sunshine Concentrate. This will clean even the dirtiest floor.
  2. To make a carpet freshener, add 16 – 20 drops of essential oils to 1 cup of baking soda or borax powder. Mix ingredients together well and place in a covered container overnight so that the essential oil can be absorbed. Sprinkle over carpet then vacuum the powder up.
  3. You may also put 3-7 drops of Lemon essential oil on a cotton ball and place it into a vacuum bag – doing this scents the air while vacuuming. If your vacuum collects the dirt into water, simply add a few drops into the water reservoir before vacuuming. This refreshes both the carpet and acts as an air freshener.
  4. Some essential oils can act as gentle stimulants to the limbic system of the brain by their scent, increasing alertness and concentration enhancing the capacity for learning, improving memory, and assisting many other cognitive functions. A wide range of essential oils offer these benefits, such as: Lemon, Peppermint and Rosemary. To help increase these functions simply inhale the chosen essential oil directly from the bottle or put a drop on a tissue and keep in your pocket for use throughout the day.
  5. Use 1–2 drops to remove gum, oil, grease, grease spots, glue and adhesives, and crayon from most surfaces. Tip: try a test area before to make sure you won’t ruin any finishes.
  6. Substitute lemon oil for lemon juice or lemon seasonings to flavor seafood, vegetables, beverages, and desserts. To use Lemon oil in place of the zest of “one” lemon – use 8 to 14 drops of  Lemon essential oil.
  7. Combine 2–3 drops with water in a 4oz. spray bottle filled with water to help cleanse and sanitize kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
  8. Soothe or prevent corns, callous, or bunions by rubbing 1-2 drops of Lemon oil on the affected area, morning and evening.
  9. Fill a bowl with cold water, add 2–3 drops of Lemon oil, and drench fruit and vegetables in the lemon water to extend the shelf life of fresh produce.

  11. Lemon has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. According Jean Valnet, M.D., the vaporized [diffused] essence of lemon can kill meningococcus bacteria in 15 minutes, typhoid bacilli in one hour, Staphylococcus aureus in two hours, and Pneumococcus bacteria within three hours. Even a 0.2% solution of Lemon oil can kill diphtheria bacteria in 20 minutes and inactivate tuberculosis bacteria.
  12. Lemon has been shown to have antidepressant effects in research done by Komori, et al.,1995. Diffuse or inhale Lemon oil to receive the benefits of aromatherapy.
  13. Lemon oil may help brighten a pale, dull complexion by removing the dead skin cells. Simply mix a drop with your cleanser to help promote healthier skin tone.
  14. Lemon oil can serve as an effective insect repellent.
  15. Rub a drop of Lemon oil on a wart morning and night, may help it to disappear.
  16. Rub 1-3 drops of Lemon oil to clean a butcher’s block or other cutting surfaces to disinfect those surfaces.
  17. Add one teaspoon of lemon essential oil to one-cup mineral oil for an effective furniture polish.
  18. Homemade lemonade, in a blender mix 2 drops of Lemon oil, 2 tablespoons of honey and two cups of pure water. Adjust the amount of each ingredient to suit your own taste.
  19. Put a drop of Lemon oil on bleeding gum’s caused by gingivitis or tooth extraction to help with healing and disinfecting.
  20. Rub 4-6 drops of Lemon oil with 1 teaspoon of  NSP Massage Oil on cellulite, may improve circulation and help eliminate waste from the cells.

  24. Diffuse Lemon essential oil to freshen the air in your home or office.
  25. Add 1-2 drops Lemon oil to a glass of water, tastes yummy, no calories, and alkalizes the water. Tip: only use glass as Lemon oil WILL dissolve items made from petrochemicals and styrofoam.
  26. Soak kitchen dishcloth overnight in a bowl of water with a drop of Lemon oil to disinfect and kill germs.
  27. Rub a drop of Lemon oil on your hands after using a public bathroom to sanitize hands.*
  28. Use a paper towel soaked with several drops of Lemon oil to sanitize bathroom fixtures.
  29. Place a drop of Lemon oil on cold sores, herpes or other mouth ulcers to lessen pain, may aid in healing.
  30. Rub two drops of Lemon oil topically, may clear athlete’s foot.
  31. Heartburn is a burning pain felt behind the breastbone. It is most often the result of acid reflux, that is, when stomach acid rises up the esophagus where it irritates the lining. Lemon essential oil (which comes from the rind, not the pulp) is one of the best remedies for heartburn, as it causes the stomach to stop excreting digestive acids. Simply add a drop or two of Lemon oil to a small glass of water and drink.
  32. Relaxing & Rejuvenating Aromatherapy Bath Salt Recipe: 1 drop Grapefruit oil, 1 drop Lemon oil, 1 drop Red Mandarin, 1 drop Patchouli oil, 3 drops Ylang Ylang or Geranium oil, 1 cup Epsom Salts or Sea Salt. Add to running bath water. Soak for 20 minutes.

  34. Refreshing Bacteria Killing Spray: You’ll need – 32 oz. spray bottle, 8 drops Cinnamon oil, 8 drops Lemon oil, 6 drops Lavender oil, 6 drops Thyme oil, 6 drops Rosemary oil, 4 drops Eucalyptus globulus, and water. Fill spray bottle 7/8 of the way with water, add your essential oils. Shake the mixture well and periodically during use. This mixture smells as terrific as it is powerful at killing germs.
